BIG traffic change into Northumberland starting Monday July 9

This is a BIG traffic change that will affect many drivers! Starting Monday (7/9) if you are heading north to Northumberland, Danville, etc – you will NOT be able to take northbound Rt 11 into Norry, due to a new project starting. Coming from Shamokin Dam, instead of Rt. 11, you will have to take the detour which takes you over the Veterans Bridge into Sunbury, up Front Street (Rt 147N) along the river, across “the island” and into Northumberland. Coming back you CAN go southbound on Rt.11 (under the railroad bridge and across the river.) This northbound detour will be in effect into November! Complete details are in this PennDOT release:

Road Widening Scheduled for Route 11 in Northumberland Borough

Montoursville, PA – A roadway widening project on Route 11 in Northumberland Borough is set to begin next week.

This project will widen Route 11 from the West Branch Susquehanna River Bridge to the intersection with Route 147 so the left turn lane for traffic turning onto Route 147 northbound can be expanded.

Work includes removing the sidewalk on the south side of the road under the railroad bridge and reconstructing the existing concrete roadway. A new sidewalk will be constructed on the north side of the road under the railroad bridge.

Upgrades to the railroad bridge will be made.

A detour for northbound traffic will begin Monday, July 9, and be in effect through the end of November. Northbound traffic will use Route 61 Veterans Memorial Bridge to Route 147 northbound to Northumberland Borough. Southbound traffic will be able to use Route 11.

Kriger Construction, Inc., of Scranton is the prime contractor on this $2.8 million project.

This project is expected to be completed in by the end of August 2019.
